Overview
A gentle, searching star associated with curiosity and seeking. In classical Vedic texts it is counted as the 5th of the 27 Nakshatras, ruled by Mars with Soma as its presiding deity.
Symbol & associations
Its symbol is the deer's head, which tradition reads as an image of the star’s spirit. Its commonly listed associations are the colour silver-grey, the number 9 and the gemstone red coral — things some people like to keep near them as a small reminder of their star, nothing more.
Ruling planet & deity
Mrigashira is ruled by Mars, which in a Vedic chart stands for your energy, drive and courage. Its presiding deity is Soma. In classical texts the ruling planet is said to colour the general “flavour” of the star — but remember this describes a traditional category, not you personally.
Gana (temperament group)
Every Nakshatra is grouped into one of three ganas. Mrigashira belongs to the Deva gana — the “divine” temperament — traditionally seen as gentle, kind and drawn to harmony. These groupings are a broad traditional idea used when comparing charts; they are not a judgement of anyone’s character.
How to use this
Treat this page as a friendly introduction to the symbolism around Mrigashira — a way to learn the tradition, not a forecast. Two people born under the same star can live completely different lives. If something here resonates, enjoy it as one small lens; if it doesn’t, let it go.
