Overview
A free, adaptable star linked to movement, trade and independence. In classical Vedic texts it is counted as the 15th of the 27 Nakshatras, ruled by Rahu with Vayu as its presiding deity.
Symbol & associations
Its symbol is the young sprout in wind, which tradition reads as an image of the star’s spirit. Its commonly listed associations are the colour black, the number 4 and the gemstone hessonite — things some people like to keep near them as a small reminder of their star, nothing more.
Ruling planet & deity
Swati is ruled by Rahu, which in a Vedic chart stands for your ambitions and cravings — where you reach for more. Its presiding deity is Vayu. In classical texts the ruling planet is said to colour the general “flavour” of the star — but remember this describes a traditional category, not you personally.
Gana (temperament group)
Every Nakshatra is grouped into one of three ganas. Swati belongs to the Deva gana — the “divine” temperament — traditionally seen as gentle, kind and drawn to harmony. These groupings are a broad traditional idea used when comparing charts; they are not a judgement of anyone’s character.
How to use this
Treat this page as a friendly introduction to the symbolism around Swati — a way to learn the tradition, not a forecast. Two people born under the same star can live completely different lives. If something here resonates, enjoy it as one small lens; if it doesn’t, let it go.
