Overview
A regal star linked to ancestry, tradition and leadership. In classical Vedic texts it is counted as the 10th of the 27 Nakshatras, ruled by Ketu with Pitris as its presiding deity.
Symbol & associations
Its symbol is the royal throne, which tradition reads as an image of the star’s spirit. Its commonly listed associations are the colour ivory, the number 7 and the gemstone cat’s eye — things some people like to keep near them as a small reminder of their star, nothing more.
Ruling planet & deity
Magha is ruled by Ketu, which in a Vedic chart stands for your instincts and detachment — what you are letting go of. Its presiding deity is Pitris. In classical texts the ruling planet is said to colour the general “flavour” of the star — but remember this describes a traditional category, not you personally.
Gana (temperament group)
Every Nakshatra is grouped into one of three ganas. Magha belongs to the Rakshasa gana — the “fierce” temperament — traditionally seen as strong-willed, protective and determined. These groupings are a broad traditional idea used when comparing charts; they are not a judgement of anyone’s character.
How to use this
Treat this page as a friendly introduction to the symbolism around Magha — a way to learn the tradition, not a forecast. Two people born under the same star can live completely different lives. If something here resonates, enjoy it as one small lens; if it doesn’t, let it go.
